I am extremely honored and pleased to receive such a wonderful award.
One of my dreams has come true. I owe it all to everyone who has supported me.
"Drops of God" was a long-term overseas shoot that lasted about six months for me, with no interpreters. It was an international set with more than three languages constantly being spoken. I lost nearly 10kg for six months to get into character, and my lines were in English, so it was a challenge that required a lot of courage and perseverance.
Receiving this wonderful award makes me feel truly grateful that we were able to work hard together with a crew that speaks different languages and cultures, and that we all came together and focused on the production.
I learned that we can overcome language and cultural barriers and come together to support each other. I would like to continue taking on new challenges in the future.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my family, friends, and all the staff and families who have been involved.
■What is "Drops of God"?
"Drops of God" is a live-action drama adaptation of the legendary and hugely popular manga "Drops of God" (written by Aki Nao, illustrated by Okimoto Shu/Kodansha), which is loved all over the world and sparked a wine boom in Japan. In this work, the male character at the center of the original manga, Kamisaki Shizuku, is replaced by a French woman, Camille, and at the same time, a smart wine critic, Tomine Issei, played by Tomohisa Yamashita, is set as the "new protagonist". The story revolves around the world-famous wine authority Alexandre Léger's disciple Issei and his only daughter Camille, who challenge each other to a wine test battle across borders in order to inherit the "world's largest wine collection" worth a total of 16 billion yen left by Alexandre Léger - a "man and woman whose fate is at the mercy of wine", and depicts a "splendid and rich human drama that transcends time and borders" in a grand and detailed manner.
